Mwanza is a city located in northern Tanzania, on the southern shores of Lake Victoria. It is the second largest city in Tanzania, after Dar es Salaam, and serves as the regional capital of the Mwanza Region. This bustling city is known for its vibrant street life, stunning lake views, and rich cultural heritage.
Mwanza is often referred to as the “Rock City” due to its rocky terrain and the famously named Bismarck Rock, a massive granite rock formation that overlooks the city. The city is also home to numerous other geological landmarks and sceneries that attract both tourists and locals alike.
The city’s main economic activities revolve around fishing, agriculture, and mining. Mwanza has a bustling fish market, where you can find a variety of fresh catches from Lake Victoria. The surrounding region is also known for its fertile soils, producing crops such as cotton, maize, and coffee.
Additionally, the city is known for its gold mines, contributing to Tanzania’s status as one of the largest gold producers in Africa. Mwanza is a gateway to several national parks, making it a popular starting point for safaris. The nearby Serengeti National Park, famous for its annual wildebeest migration, is easily accessible from Mwanza. Other parks in the vicinity include Rubondo Island National Park, Saanane Island National Park, and the Grumeti Game Reserve.
In terms of culture, Mwanza is known for its vibrant music and dance scene. The Sukuma tribe, the largest ethnic group in the region, has a rich cultural heritage that is celebrated through traditional music, dance, and vibrant festivals. The Bujora Cultural Centre, located just outside the city, is a popular destination to experience authentic Sukuma performances.
Mwanza has a range of accommodation options, from luxury hotels to budget guesthouses, to cater to the needs of different travelers. The city also has a good transportation network, with regular flights connecting it to other major cities in Tanzania and beyond.
Mwanza offers a unique blend of natural beauty, cultural richness, and economic activities. Whether you are interested in exploring national parks, immersing yourself in local culture, or simply enjoying the stunning views of Lake Victoria, Mwanza has something to offer for everyone.
In conclusion, Lake Tanganyika is a truly remarkable body of water. Its immense size, astounding depth, and abundant wildlife make it a fascinating destination for nature enthusiasts, historians, and anyone who appreciates the beauty of our planet. Let us all work together to ensure its preservation for generations to come.

Carina M2024-10-27An unforgettable journey It has always been a dream of mine to travel to Africa and through "Wild Authentics" my dream came true.I travelled with three friends and with our wonderful safari guide Elly 7 days through different national parks. Our guide was very friendly, speaks five different languages and was able to teach us a lot about culture, nature and the wild animals. We drove through Tarangiere,-Serengeti National Park to Nongorongoro Crater. Seeing the different vegetation in each national park and the wild animals was very, very exciting and totally impressive. I've never experienced such "wideness" and tranquility in my life.My absolute highlight was sleeping in the tent and being surrounded by wild animals and. Sitting around the campfire in the evening, enjoying the starry sky as the zebras and elephants creep around us.In addition, our trip was completely individually tailored to our wishes in advance, so we had even more highlights ahead of us. Like staying at Elly 's Famiele for a night. We were totally warmly welcomed and welcomed, all cooked together and got to know Tanzania again from a completely different side. The next day we went to a banana plantation with inclusive tasting of banana wine and beer.Afterwards we also had a look at African craftsmanship and visited a wood workshop. Then we went to the island of Zanzibar. We spent three days in Stone town and then another 4 days on the beach at Mahali Resort. At this point a huge compliment to Wild Authentics, because all the accommodations were perfectly selected for us, the trip was so well organized that we were just allowed to arrive and experience. And all this gave us an unforgettable time and made our trip very special.Wild Authentics definitely stands out from all other travel companies and is highly recommended.:)Matteo S2024-10-23Fantastic. 8 friends 2 jeeps and lots of animals. Fantastic experience, fantastic escorts, helpful throughout speak both English and Italian, they arranged 5 days in Tanzania in the best way I could wish for. We visited the 3 most important parks and saw all the possible animals from afar and up close all thanks to the experience and the desire of the guides. They took us around Arusha and visited a Maasai tribe. All really very nice. I recommend everyone to go on safari with Wild Authentic, wonderful people. Asante saint Hakuna matata.evakraeutlein2024-10-23Feel free in the wilderness I was with three girlfriends on a 7 day safari organized by Wild Authentics. I loved the vastness of the parks, the tranquility, the beautiful animals and the observation of the wildlife. Our guide Ely is here has accompanied us wonderfully through the 7 days and has responded to our wishes. After this wonderful trip in Tarangire and Serengetipark we were allowed to stay overnight at the "Homestay". That was one of my highlights...The family of Ely welcomed us so warmly and cooked deliciously, you already felt part of the family. The trip was super organized from front to back even the onward journey to Zanzibar worked great and was well organized. Thanks for that. It's been a wonderful journey indeed.Sabrina2024-09-10Authentic Adventures with WAT We were a group of four girls and couldn’t have dreamed of a better way to explore Tansania. We gave Eli & Michelle full controll of planning this trip and booking our accommodations…and we didn’t regret it for one second. The mix between luxury lodges and tented camps, where we were sleeping surrounded by zebras and elephants, was a once in a lifetime adventure! Eli was driving us through Tarangire, Serengeti and Ngorogoro. With his expertise and knowledge we had the best safari trip seeing and learning so much about Tansania’s wildlife and geography. He made all our wishes come true, even taking us to multiple stores because we were looking for a specific music instrument. After our 6 day safari trip we went to Eli’s hometown and stayed a night with his family. We loved the warm welcome of his mom, sister and the whole family and got to experience the everyday life of them while cooking traditional food and visiting a banana plantation. What a truly authentic experience a big safari company would not be able to offer! At the end of our trip we went to Zanzibar where Eli has booked us an amazing beach front hotel and even there he was still always available to answer our questions on the phone. I recommend traveling with Eli and Wild Authentics to everyone who is looking for a personalized itinerary and not an off-the-self solution most of the bigger companies are offering. Asante sanaFlyer212260115082024-07-162 day safari We booked a 2-day safari trip and received excellent assistance from Michelle, who was always available to answer our questions. Unfortunately, we had to cancel our trip, but they provided great support throughout the cancellation process. We look forward to booking another trip with you soon!Mohamed Saidi2024-02-12Unforgettable Safari Experience with Wild Authentics I went on a breathtaking safari adventure with Wild Authentics in December 2023, exploring the Serengeti, Ngorongoro, and Tarangire. As couples, our experience was nothing short of extraordinary. Our guide's expertise and attentive care added a special touch to our journey, making it an unforgettable and seamlessly orchestrated expedition. From the majestic landscapes to the abundant wildlife, Wild Authentics truly delivered an authentic and enriching safari experience. Highly recommended for those seeking a memorable adventure in Tanzania!Marcela K2024-02-01Mé 2. safari Moc děkuji za krásné 3 dni safari- Serengeti a Ngorongoro s Wildauthentics.Michel a Inocent vše zařídili. Nic není problém. V džípu jsme měli chlazené nápoje a malé občerstvení celý den. Oběd jsme měli v balíčku (Inocent nám nachystal stůl) a jedli jsme na odpočívadlech s toaletou. Nic nám nechybělo. Nic není problém. Ubytování ve stanu s podestou, splachovacím záchodem a sprchou. Restaurace hned vedle a personál na safari perfektní. Přijeli jsme v noci autobusem do Arusha (velice krásná oblast). Hned u autobusu nás vyzvedla Michel a Inocent-zařídili nám přespání v hotelu a odvezli nás autem. Ráno v 7 h po snídani nás Inocent vyzvedl a jeli jme s kufry a batohy na safari. (Kufry jsme si pak nechali ve stanu a jezdili přes den jen s batůžkem). Začali jsme kráterem Ngorongoro a pak Serengeti. Večer a ráno jsme měli zajištěné jídlo v restauraci hned vedle. Moc milí ochotní lidé a vážně nic není problém. Hakuna Matata.Velice děkujeme Marcela z České Republiky a Nyota z Tanzanie. Prosinec 2023Thank you very much for a beautiful 3 day safari - Serengeti and Ngorongoro with Wildauthentics.Michel and Inocent arranged everything. Nothing is a problem. We had cold drinks and small snacks in the jeep all day. We had lunch in one (Inocent prepared a table for us) and we ate at rest areas with toilets. We didn't miss anything. Nothing is a problem. Accommodation in a tent with landing, flush toilet and shower. The restaurant next door and the staff on safari perfect. We arrived at night by bus to Arusha (a very beautiful area). Michel and Inocent picked us up right at the bus - they arranged for us to spend the night in a hotel and took us by car. In the morning at 7 a.m. after breakfast, Inocent picked us up and we went on safari with our suitcases and backpacks. (We then left our suitcases in the tent and traveled during the day with only a rucksack). We started with the Ngorongoro Crater and then the Serengeti. We arrived at the accommodation in the evening. We always slept in the same place. They helped us with our suitcases. The tent is beautiful and safe - equipped with a mosquito net, they always gave us a little water in a bottle to drink and there was even mosquito spray. In the evening and in the morning we had a meal in the restaurant right next door. (Drinks and beer can also be purchased). After the safari we wanted to go to Zanzibar. The first plan was to take a bus to Dar es Salam and a Ferry boat to Stown Town, then another bus or taxi to Kendwa. The second plan was to take a plane from Arusha to Zanzibar. The wonderful Michel arranged our flights and Inocent accompanied us to the airport.Very nice helpful people and really nothing is a problem. Hakuna Matata. Many thanks to Marcela from the Czech Republic and Nyota from Tanzania. December 2023Brenda M2023-09-15A very very very nice experience I had spent years planning for this vacation, so I wanted everything to go perfectly. I spent a lot of time looking online for the best agency before finding Wild Authentic, and I chose to put my faith in them. How did it go? Where do I begin? Everything was much more wonderful than I could have ever imagined. I dialed Liger Safaris to discuss my ideal getaway. A 5-day excursion to Tarangire, two nights in the Serengeti, the Ngorogoro crater, and the tribes was organized. Our preferences were taken into consideration while choosing the accommodations, and we were astounded by what they discovered. We could not have asked for a better driver and guide than Lukas. He spent the entire time making sure we were having fun and laughed through out. Water, tea, Soda, plenty of snacks and coffee were available during the whole trip. He has incredible knowledge of the local wildlife and geography. Not to add, we were able to view all of the big five. I'll return and make new plans with the same company.Klara F2023-09-13The perfect family safari We just found out about Wildlife Authentics a week ago and were thrilled from the start. Elly and Michelle made all our wishes possible! We were thrilled with all the animals Elly showed us and the great accommodations Michelle picked out. Our highlight at the end of our 7 day safari was that we went to Elly's hometown and took a bike ride to his family's house to have lunch with his mother. We loved that because on top of all the animals, we could also get to know the everyday life of the people, far away from the Massai villages staged only for the tourists. We would always recommend to our friends to make a safari with this small but very great company!meifeizhou2023-09-07FIRST TIME WAS A CHARM! My first African Safari was everything I had hoped it would for and in the most amazing way possible! We did a 8 day safari with Wild Authentic Tanzania and I feel like five stars isn't enough. It all began when I came across an Instagram reel about a drive from Arusha to the Serengeti. I was got intrigued since at the time, my friends and I were all looking into Tanzanian tour operators, namely one that was locally owned because we wanted to experience more than just a safari, we wanted to see what was truly Africa. As I scrolled through their profile, I had the impression that they were a relatively young firm, but I gave it a go. I DM'd them, and they responded the next day. All additional communication took place via emails, later, and WhatsApp. Michelle was given the responsibility of organising everything we did in Tanzania, from our arrival to our departure. Now, during the entire safari planning to the actual safari I have 2 main highlights. Number 1 is the company's staff who we worked with, Michelle who made out itinerary proposal and gave it an unforgettable twist and Lukas, Our safari guide who spoke a really good English but above all new all hidden gems of the National Parks. As I suggested earlier, my friends and I were basically looking for the right company to travel with. As a result of our enquiries to several companies, we received numerous itinerary proposals from them. Now, these companies had a few things in common : a) they were popular in the search engine; b) they had hundreds of reviews. c) SAME ITINERARY STRUCTURE (pick-up at the airport the following day, start your safari; if you are affluent enough, add activities like a Maasai visit (which, in my opinion, is superfluous because everything is as if it is staged for tourists)then, following your safari, travel to Zanzibar, which is likely your next stop).Michelle on the other hand wasn't quick to just throw a proposal, she first asked me a question, what I wanted from Tanzania. This one question evolved to not only an Incredible safari (She recommended 2 days in Tarangire instead of doing 1 at Manyara and 1 at Tarangire as we anticipated and it was golden) but also visits to Karatu's local streets, a church service, a school where the sweetest, most talented children sang us songs, and a local lunch in a local family's home (most hotel and camp menus don't have local cuisine). The fact that we were the only tourists in these locations made it even more special, making it our second highlight.Thank you, Lucas, for providing us with such a wealth of information on not just wildlife and birds, but also most Tanzanian's way of life, as well as for teaching us how to count in Swahili. We appreciate you maintaining the car as spotless as you could and providing us with your superb locally sourced coffee to keep us warm in the Ngorongoro Crater, such a remarkable memory. All in all everything was unique and amazing. Downside though, accommodations where average but pricey, Lukas told us that because it was July- The peak season so brace yourselves guys! I would 100% recommend.Tripadvisor rating score: 5.0 of 5, based on 14 reviewsVerified by TrustindexTrustindex verified badge is the Universal Symbol of Trust.
